Challenge
A multi-family residential complex was in the construction phase in Antioch, TN. The property needed access to the main road which required crossing a wetland that bisected the property. A pre-engineered corrugated bridge structure was selected for this project. Dean Engineering and Design was engaged to provide the design of the headwalls and wingwalls for the bridge. One complication of this project was the wetland itself, which contributed to poor soil conditions around the site. Additionally, the walls needed to be designed for continuous heavy traffic over the bridge.
Solution
Dean Engineering and Design provided a positive connection design for these walls utilizing the Magnum Stone wall system. The poor soils were removed and replaced with lean concrete to provide a suitable bearing surface for the walls. Each wall unit had geogrid reinforcement that looped through the block and extended into the backfill to tie this structure together. This bridge is currently in use in Antioch, TN.
