retaining wall design
Dean Engineering has designed over half of a million square feet of retaining walls. We specialize in providing contractors and owners with clear, detailed plan sets for retaining wall installation.
mse segmental walls
Mechanically stabilized earth walls are commonly used in both commercial and residential applications. These walls utilize geogrid to reinforce a column of stone or soil. The “reinforced section” provides the mass necessary to resist the soil pressures behind the wall.
gravity PMB walls
In applications where space is unavailable, or excavations must be limited, gravity precast modular block (PMB) walls can often be the solution. These walls rely on the mass of the large units to resist the forces exerted by the soil without the use of geogrid.
Cantilever walls
Cantilever walls are another option used when space is limited on a site. These walls can be constructed of formed concrete or concrete masonry units (CMU).
Projects across the southeast
Dean Engineering and Design is based in Knoxville, TN and licensed in six states across the Southeast.

tiered lakefront wall
These tiered walls utilized gravity and reinforced earth hybrid systems to allow access to the lake, while maintaining ideal aesthetics from all angles.
Observation services
Retaining wall observations
Often, building authorities will require a letter from a licensed engineer to insure that a retaining wall was constructed properly. We make periodic visits during the construction process, and provide our clients with the necessary documentation. Many homeowners also elect to have construction processes monitored for the assurance that their contractor followed standard practices.
Unsuitable soil investigations
When unsuitable soils are encountered, we offer guidance in determining an economic solution to achieving the bearing required for the project.
